Norway - NORAD

The Directorate for Development Cooperation (NORAD), is assigned by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign affairs to carry out bilateral state-to-state cooperation. It plays a major role in bringing together Norwegian companies and firms in the cooperating countries. Furthermore, it takes care of the steadily growing collaboration between Norwegian voluntary organisations (NGOs) and their partners in developing countries. Around 10 per cent of the total Norwegian assistance is channelled in this way.

Following a review of development work in 1990, there is an increased emphasis on productive undertakings, institutional development and the process of democratisation, as well as added emphasis on the responsibilities of recipient countries. NORAD also works hard at integrating Norway’s contribution to development cooperation with the recipients’s own plans and institutions.
