Assisting Developing Countries with the Formulation and Implementation of National
Strategies for Sustainable Development: The Need to Clarify DAC Targets and
Strategies
OECD (1999): Assisting Developing
Countries with the Formulation and Implementation of National Strategies for
Sustainable Development: The Need to Clarify DAC Targets and Strategies. OECD,
Paris.
Members of the Development
Assistance Committee (DAC) of the OECD met on 11-12 May 1999 at the level of
Development Co-operation Ministers and Heads of Aid Agencies. They endorsed
the note clarifying the role of development co-operation in assisting partner
developing countries in the formulation and implementation of national strategies
for sustainable development. According to OECD, this will serve as a reference
point for the donor community.
This document outlines opportunities
in formulating national strategies for sustainable development and discusses
the need for clarification of the DAC NSSD target. The paper concludes with
a section on how the role of development co-operation should be clarified.
