Strategies
for Sustainability: Asia
Carew-Reid
J.(ed) (1997): Strategies for Sustainability: Asia. IUCN in association with
Earthscan Publications, London.
This volume
presents experience with strategies for sustainability in six Asian countries:
four in South Asia and two in Southeast Asia.
The case
studies include a diverse range of approaches to development and implementation:
strategies led by technical consultants; those produced solely by government;
and more participatory processes are discussed. Most follow the linear model,
with the production of a strategy document followed by its implementation.
There are, however, a number of important innovations which have emerged,
such as the Environmental Core Group developed in Nepal and the Journalist
Resource Centre for the Environment in Pakistan.
