Approach
The survey was completed in April 2008 and had both a regional and a Chilean scope.
(a) Regional scope
- The project questionnaire was sent to regional networks: the Inter American Development Bank, UN-ECLAC, UNEP regional office, main sustainable development related institutions based in the region (ETHOS, Brazil; SPDA, Peru; FARN, Argentina; Instituto HUMBOLDT, Colombia; Fundacion Futuro Latinoamericano, Ecuador).
- In each case. RIDES researchers complemented the questionnaire with telephone interviews (structured according to the questionnaire).
(b) In Chile
- Available experience was reviewed – literature and internet based review.
- 36 interviews were carried out using the questionnaire for structuring responses. In each case, the questionnaire was sent to the interviewee in advance.
- A collective meeting (e.g. breakfast meeting) was organised in order to bring together selected respondents to discuss results.
- Interviewees included representatives from: ministries (planning, environmental, agriculture, public works, housing, economy, etc.), sectoral agencies (energy, foreign investment committee, exports promotion), environmental representative from national industry associations, key sustainable development NGO representatives, international cooperation agencies based in Chile.
